Now & Again- Returning to Now Sapphire, Mexico - By Samantha Owen-Stoddart

In May I travelled to Mexico and made a return trip to the Now Sapphire resort for the third time. I first visited in 2013 to celebrate my 30th birthday, as a surprise gift from my husband after he had heard such great comments about the hotel and again in 2015 to holiday with family. Each time I feel lucky enough to say I have met great people from others parts of the world, who I now count as good friends. That is one the joy’s of travel, you meet new people and friendships grow all in the shared passion of seeing the world.

The Now Sapphire is situated near the fishing village of Puerto Morelos, in the Riviera Cancun. Just south of Cancun itself, it takes around 20 minutes from Cancun International Airport, which is 13 miles away. Riviera Cancun is a tourism and resort district of Mexico, it sprawls the Caribbean coastline of the state of Quintana Roo and is located in the eastern part of the Yucatan Peninsula. Now Sapphire takes inspiration from the traditional Mayan architecture in it’s buildings and decor and it boasts beautifully tropical surroundings, giving the hotel an elegant, yet luxurious feel. The resort offers the guest “unlimited luxury” with a first class beach setting and ocean views to savour.

Now Sapphire has 496 suites on the resort, they are decorated in complimentary Caribbean tones. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable. I always ask to be near the sea or beach front, on an upper floor, remember to mention this upon booking or checkin. During my stay’s here past and present, I have added the Preferred Club extra to which I will explain the difference. For an added cost of £50 in our case, I feel this was warranted and as they say the cherry on the cake! Preferred Club is an option you can add on to your stay at the point of booking, which I did on the online booking form, it states the price as an extra and you can choose if you wish to include it. You can also wait and add it on arrival but the price is much higher in resort.

Preferred Club

*Personalised checkin & checkout with the concierge

*Preferred status

*Access to a private lounge & adults only pool with bali beds. Pool concierge, you can make reservations through them for the beds one day before

*Cibu restaurant for breakfast, as an alternative to the buffet, that offers a waiter service, good hot options breakfast menu, live music some mornings and mimosa’s

*Upgraded mini bar & room service menu

*Pillow Menu in your room

*Complimentary newspapers to your suite daily

*Whirlpool on balcony (Ocean front suites only)

*Complimentary access to the hydrotherapy circuit in the spa

*Daily continental breakfast, afternoon snacks & more in the private lounge, accessed through your room key

I personally think the preferred club is worth every penny as I use the Adult’s pool with the bali beds, the waiter service is first class with extras such a cold towels to cool you down though the daytime and fruit kebabs offered as snacks, it is all about the little extras in making your stay a memorable one! I like to take breakfast at Cibu too, as the atmosphere is very relaxed and you can enjoy your breakfast at leisure.

Coco Cafe is a premium coffee shop with deli snacks, a favourite of mine as I like to get up to watch the sunrise and grab a early coffee afterwards with a muffin! Open 6am-10pm and newly added Late Bites 11pm-7am.

There is an option to dine at another resort with Sip,Savour & See, to make a reservation see the concierge by 3pm the day you wish to eat out. See the list of hotels online Now Sapphire, they include Tulum, Cozumel and more…

Now Spa by Pevonia offers a huge range of spa services, with an on site hydrotherapy area and relaxation zones. I have used the spa a few times and it is to a high standard, I love the hydrotherapy area as you can use it alone or before a treatment! Enjoy.

Fitness Centre is located on the beach front with amazing views whilst you work out. Open 7am-7pm.

Other things to do…

Take the opportunity to go out and visit places. I would recommend Tulum and the Mayan Ruins, see this past post on it for more info. Cozumel day trip by ferry is also a great recommendation. There are on site travel agents that you can book trips through if you wish.

Take note- At certain times of the year you can watch the Turtle Release Programme, ask at the concierge.

I have thoroughly enjoyed all my stays here, mainly due to the high standards the resort retains. The staff are very attentive and look to go that further step in making your holiday or trip extra special and memorable. I would recommend a stay here if you have never been to Mexico and want to enjoy a great resort!

Now Sapphire is a AAA Four Diamond award winning resort and are Rainforest Alliance Certified, playing their part in ‘going green’. They are owned by AM resorts who are a company with a collection of luxury resort destinations, each with it’s very own personality. All offer great beaches, elegant accommodation, gourmet dining, unlimited premium drinks and pampering amenities.
