Visiting Vegas - My Tips! By Samantha Owen-Stoddart
Las Vegas is situated in Nevada’s Mojave Desert in the United States of America, nicknamed ‘Sin City’. Vegas as its known to most is a renowned resort city, mainly known for gambling, shopping, fine dining and nightlife. Its origins actually date back to 1905!
I have been lucky enough to ‘experience’ Vegas on several trips over the past few years, one occasion being my honeymoon after our wedding in Maui, Hawaii. Everyone should see and visit Las Vegas at least once in their lifetime, if only to take in the incredible sights and sounds of what awaits them. You won’t be disappointed, I like to describe it as “Disneyland for Adults”, even if like myself gambling isn’t your passion, there is so much more to see and explore.
I thought I would share my tips on ‘Vegas’ with you, as I know any first visit somewhere can be daunting and you want to get the very most out of your trip.
WHAT TO DO IN VEGAS?
Helicopter Ride down The Strip
The Stratosphere ride
Take a ride in a Gondola at the Venetian hotel
The High Roller at The Linq- Best at night and you can take drinks package out whilst on the ride. The view from the top of Las Vegas is amazing!
Take in a show, Jersey Boys was on when I honeymooned here. There is a ticket place at the front of the Fashion Show Mall with discounted seats for most shows
See a concert, I last saw Britney Spears at Planet Hollywood it was a great show and Rod Stewart at Caesars Palace. You can pre book tickets online before you travel if you wish.
Siegfried and Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat at The Mirage, step into “an enchanting world” of Bottlenose Dolphins, White Tigers, White Lions and Leopards and come up close to these fabulous creatures
WHERE TO EAT?
There is so much choice and variety in Las Vegas of where and what’s on offer to eat, that you will be spoilt for choice whatever your budget. These are my recommendations.
Tao at the Venetian is perfect for a special treat or occasion. The surroundings, food and drinks are all to a very high standard. Serving Asian Cuisine including sushi, Japanese, Thai and Chinese fare. My favourite place to eat in Vegas!! I always pre book online via OpenTable prior to travel to avoid disappointment, you also get entry to the nightclub afterwards.
Hakkasan at MGM is an award winning, Michelin Starred Restaurant that serves great Cantonese food and world class cocktails set in a very cool, modern vibe. Again I would reserve a table prior to dining.
Stripburger is a great choice for all, a casual lunch or dinner choice with delicious made to order burgers, shakes etc on offer, a must try is their ‘onion strings’. Located at the front of the Fashion Show Mall on the corner.
Maggiano’s is upstairs in the Fashion Show Mall, a great Italian restaurant with good food and good portions on offer. Perfect for dinner after shopping!
The Cheesecake Factory is in Caesars Forum Shoppes upstairs, they offer great choice of food and you can’t visit without ending your meal with a slice of REAL cheesecake!
Sugar Factory at the Fashion Show Mall from February, formally in the Paris hotel. Plenty to offer food and drink wise, with a cool twist. The shop is also worth a visit where you can buy glitter slogan tees and bejewelled lolly pops called Couture Pops!!
Terrace Point Cafe inside the Wynn hotel, perfect for breakfast. My favourite choice for breakfast was the Brioche French Toast with a side of crispy bacon and a coffee, yum…
WHERE TO SHOP?
Caesars Forum Shops Caesars is a great choice for shopping as there is a huge choice to pick from from designer brands like Louis Vuitton to Victoria Secrets and Nike town. Sephora is located here too!!
Fashion Show Mall has more of a high street, cooler feel to its shops including Victoria Secrets and Forever 21 to name a few.
Venetian & Palazzo shops (Grand Canal Shoppes) a range of luxury shops, from all the top designers.
The Wynn & Encore shops are higher end fashion, with nice shoe shops!
Last but by no means least my favourite part of Las Vegas, Pool Parties
BEST POOL PARTIES?
Tao Beach at the Venetian, this is an intimate pool on the top roof of the hotel that gives you a chilled and relaxed vibe to the pool party scene. My favourite by far! Pre booking recommended
Encore Beach Club I visited the Encore Beach for David Guetta’s Pool Party, it was the BEST day ever. Again the setting is more intimate than other large pool parties in Vegas, but I feel this is for the better as the atmosphere was unreal and well worth the ticket. You can buy the event tickets before you go online. Click the link for upcoming summer 2017 events.
Wet Republic at MGM Grand is a much larger scale pool party, that is very popular and again hosts well known DJ’S for the shows.
Hard Rock hosts Rehab, which is the ‘infamous Las Vegas pool party’ set in a tropical oasis at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Where you can buy cabana’s for the day if you are in a large group and party hard!
I normally stay at the Hard Rock Hotel on Paradise Road as I feel it has all the amenities I am looking for, three pools depending on whether you want chilled, party or an event. Plenty bars and restaurants, shops and obviously a casino that is surrounded by all the Hard Rock memorabilia from famous stars around the world. They also host great concerts held in their own concert hall. The feel of the hotel is more relaxed than others and I find that important when I visit places, that you can dress down during the day and be yourself. Dress up and party hard at night!
I hope these tips help you if and when you decide to visit ‘Sin Cit
